Steven Kay Belnap - Class Of 1967

"Warriors are not born and they are not made...they create themselves through trial and error, pain and suffering, and their ability to conquer their own faults."

Steven Kay Belnap (Steve to family and friends) passed away on August 24, 2017, in Maricopa, Arizona, following open heart surgery. He was 67 years old. He was born on September 8, 1949, in Salt Lake City to Flora Packer Belnap and LaMar Belnap.

Steve grew up in Ogden and Clearfield, graduating from Clearfield High School in 1967, where he was a three time state champion wrestler, then received training to become a nurses aid. He was drafted into the military during the Vietnam War, choosing to join the Navy, and served two tours in special services and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal; he returned to attend Weber State University and lived in Layton, Clearfield, Willard, and Brigham City.

He retired after working for 39 years at Hill Air Force Base and Thiokol as an aircraft mechanic and quality assurance agent. He was very proud of his accomplishments and meticulous in his work. In 1995, he began working overseas with the military, first helping rebuild Bosnia, then in a fuels program - stationed in Germany and traveling to Greece, Hungary, and the Middle East. He had many exciting stories about his travels, and had acquired enough to be able to communicate in several different languages. He loved working and talking to the active duty soldiers and sharing his stories about Vietnam.

Steve was an avid skier and golfer. He belonged to the HAFB ski club, and skied in Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Arizona, and Banff, Canada. He golfed around the U.S. and in Dubai! He introduced many of his loved ones to his love of both sports, even surviving a broken neck, leg, and other injuries!

Steve is survived by the love of his life, Linda Ocana; his sons: Rick, Shane, and Paul (Kachelle) Belnap; his daughter, Nikole (Scott) Snyder; his step-children: Jessica, Danny (Misti), Adria (Ricky), Christina (Matt), and Gabriel (Amber). He shared 23 grandchildren and one GREAT grandchild with Linda: Zak (Courtney), Colby (ShaLee), Jake, Selena, Braxton, Ciarra, Tristan, Kayla, Demetrick, Brynlee, Tyller, Ryan, Champ, Dominic, Arianna, Layla, Trinity, Brody, Alana, Noel, Colton, and Emily. He is also survived by his brothers: Dennis (Toni), Larry (Connie); sister, Sandy (Dale); and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father; and brother, Kyle.

The family will have a Celebration of Life at Crossroads Christian Fellowship, 6545 Combe Road, Uintah on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 1 p.m. Please dress casual.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the VFW.

This is very sad.  Steve was a good guy.  I don't remember ever seeing him without a smile... except when he was facing an opponent on the mat!  My condolences to his family.
