IVAN EDWARD CORNIA

12 MARCH 1929 – 12 JANUARY 2015 

Ivan Edward Cornia, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, January 12, 2015 of multiple myeloma cancer.

He was born on 12 March 1929 in South Weber, Utah, to Ada Viola Harbertson and William Edward Cornia.

He graduated from Davis High School, served a mission to the Central Atlantic States, and then married his high school sweetheart, Donna Vee Kendell in the Logan LDS Temple on 21 November 1950. They have been blessed with four children, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years from 1951 to 1953.

He graduated from Utah State University in Logan, Utah, in June, 1955, and received the Cardon Art Award there. In February, 1994, he retired from the Davis School District after working there 39 years - as a teacher for 13 years and art supervisor for 26 years. In 1968, he was named Art Educator of the year for the Utah Art Association.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served as Elder’s President, Bishop, High Counselor and Patriarch in the Clearfield Stake. He served on the Correlation Committee of the LDS church in Salt Lake and the General Board of MIA. He and his wife served a Hosting Mission at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. In 2005 he was called again to be a Patriarch in the Hooper Stake and served in that position until his death.

He was a master teacher and leaves behind an incredible legacy full of love and leadership. His gentle strength, guidance and calm voice of authority will be missed by all of those who were fortunate to share time on this earth with such a wonderful man.

He leaves behind his wife, Donna, one sister, LaRae Stoddard, two daughters, Deanne and Kevin Beutler, Janette and Duane Cooke, and one son, Ray and Debra Cornia; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada and William Cornia, two sisters, Elda Johansen and Bessie Hansen and one daughter, Donette Cornia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, 16 January at the Hooper Park Ward Chapel, 5601 South 6100 West. Friends and family may call at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, on Thursday 15 January from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday at the Ward Chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Interment, Uintah Cemetery, Uintah, Utah.
