Ron Martinez - Class Of 1979

Ron Martinez
May 8, 1961 – May 13, 2015
Some of our trials become the greatest gifts in life

Ron Martinez, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 13, 2015 from complications related to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
He was born May 8, 1961 in Ogden, Utah, a son of John and Tobe Martinez. Ron was raised in Sunset, Utah and attended Clearfield High School. He was married to Nancy Hart and later divorced. He married Gina Baker and later divorced, though they remained the best of friends.
Ron was employed at Albion for 15 years. He enjoyed his job and loved the people he worked with. Ron's passion was restoring cars and attending car shows with his "car show" family. His 1969 Camaro and 1970 Chevelle (which was a surprise restoration from his friends) were his pride and joy. He enjoyed numerous trips to Wendover, Reno, South Dakota and Las Vegas and left a legacy of cherished memories.
Though Ron struggled with ALS for 5 years, he never focused on his illness but was always there to lift our spirits with his kind heart and loving smile. His family was his caregivers, not out of an obligation but from unselfish love. Ron was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Ron is survived by his father, John A Martinez and his brother John R (Trisha) Martinez, Syracuse ; and four sisters, Joan (Dan) Braunberger, West Haven; Patricia Smith, West Point; Nancy (Tony) Garcia, Syracuse; and Judy (Wade) Johnson, South Ogden. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Our family wishes to express our gratitude to Dr. Mark Bromberg and his staff at the University of Utah MDA clinic, and the outstanding and compassionate care provided by Brenda, Martha, and Courtney from Summit Hospice. A special thank you to Heidi for keeping Ron's spirit alive with love and laughter. Dave, your visits to Ron's home for his grooming needs were invaluable. To the many friends who made his home "accessible", your skills definitely improved his quality of life which enabled him to spend his remaining years at home. Last but not least, a heartfelt thanks to Ron's " car show" family. Thanks for all your love and support.
Per Ron's request, a private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation under the direction of Myer's Mortuary in Roy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association or a charity of your choice.
