Joyce Thurgood - Class Of 1970

Joyce Thurgood, age 63 of Salt Lake City, our beloved sister, aunt, grandaunt, and friend passed away on Sunday evening, August 14, 2016 surrounded by loved ones after suffering liver failure.

She was born October 28, 1952, to Glen Lacy Thurgood and Lola Lucile Stoker in Westwood, Lassen County, California. When she was four years old she moved with her family back to Clearfield, Utah where she attended Pioneer Elementary, Doxey Elementary, Sunset Junior High School, and then Clearfield High School where she graduated with high honors and as a member of the National Honor Society.

She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Business Management, Economics, and Accounting. She worked as a Senior Financial Analyst for the LDS Church at the Church Office Building for 42-years, retiring just before her death. One of her most special possessions is a framed letter, thanking her for her diligent and faithful service to the church, which was signed by the First Presidency. She was active in the LDS Church serving in many callings. She was friends with many and cared a great deal about people.

She is survived by her siblings Carolyn (Blaine) Philips, Margil (Ted) Terry, David (Marilyn), Marvin (Vicki); a sister-in- law Brenda J. Thurgood; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother Glen.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11 a.m., at the Winder 8th Ward building, 1361 East 4000 South, Salt Lake City, where viewings will be held Friday, August 19, 2016, 6-8 p.m., and again Saturday prior to services from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery, Clearfield, Utah.
