Sid E. Stoker - Class Of 1967

After a happy life, Sid E. Stoker, 69, our loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend, OUR HERO, returned to his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his loved ones at his home.

Sid was born February 12, 1948, son of Ardell Thurgood and Delmar J. Stoker. He lived his entire life in the same home in Syracuse, Utah.

He graduated from Clearfield High School and attended Weber State University. He served in the Southern California LDS mission. He married his best friend and eternal companion, Jerry Rasmussen Stoker, on September 17, 1968. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Sid loved Jerry more than anything. Together they had four children, and 14 grandchildren, his family was everything to him. He was our biggest fan and our best friend.

Sid loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served faithfully in many callings in the Syracuse 3rd Ward and the Singles Ward, he loved the youth. He had a strong testimony and deep faith. He never complained about trials, which he knew many. He endured, and endured well.

He worked hard his entire life. He owned Stoker’s Nursery, a family business. He loved working side by side with his parents, wife, children and sister. He passed his hard work ethic onto his family and many other youth in the community who had the opportunity to work at the nursery with him.

Sid never met a stranger. If he met you, he loved you. His door was always open. He went about doing good and making forever friends everywhere he went.

In 2000, he received the gift of life; a kidney from an organ donor. He was forever grateful for this gift, which allowed him precious extra time with his family.

He was a member of the Utah Fancy Poultry Association and loved raising chickens. He enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren at their football, soccer, and baseball games. He also enjoyed watching dance recitals, feeding the ducks, and getting slurpees at 7-11. He embraced anything that gave him the opportunity to spend time with his family.

Sid is survived by his wife Jerry, children Burt (Charlise), Syracuse; Wade (Rhonda), Syracuse; Amie (Mike) Mathis, Clinton; Carrie (Jonathan) Hendricks,  Syracuse; 14 best friends that call him grandpa, one who is currently serving an LDS mission in Ecuador; one sister, Sheila (Jim) McCowen, Mt. Green; two sisters-in-laws, Nancy (Don) Galvez, Riverdale; Cris (Reed) Thurgood, Rigby ID; many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
