In Memory

Joyce Lorraine Douglass (Ballard) - Class Of 1968

Our sweet Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Neighbor and Friend passed away on Friday June 26, 2015 in her sleep. It was her Mother's birthday and we are confident that her passing was a celebration for them both. Joyce was born on March 25, 1950 in Ogden, Utah to Gerald L and Phyllis Douglass. She was raised in Davis County and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1968, Joyce married Bill Knight in 1972 and together they had three children. They divorced later. After she had raised her children, Joyce married Russ Ballard in her later years. Joyce was a devoted mother – her children were everything to her. Her most cherished role was being a homemaker. Her home and garden were filled with sayings, pictures and knick-knacks that inspired peace, hope and smiles from everyone. Her desire to inspire children was evidenced in the many stories, poems, and pictures she created to encourage them to dream, love and believe in themselves! She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served her Lord in many ways. Her latest service was being "sister Friendly" to the Primary children of her ward. Truly, she loved serving and protecting the "little ones" who the Savior said are the greatest in the kingdom of God. She is survived by her three children: Billi Jo Chandler (Brian); Brooke Packard (Jaren) and Brady Knight. She is also survived by her three sisters and two brothers: Jena Wilson, Kathie West, Jeri Douglass, Kirk Douglass (Annette) and Phil Douglass (Traci). She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Russ Ballard and two brother in-laws, Nolan Wilson and Larry West A viewing will be held at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary at 4760 South State Street in Murray, Utah on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and again at the church on Thursday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 2, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Murray 12th Ward Chapel located at 363 East Vine Street in Murray, Utah. The family is grateful for the love and concern of her neighbors, especially Marty Samond. Their love for each other was a great example of "Love thy neighbor as thyself." A private interment will be conducted by the family at a later date.
