In Memory

Lewis Thurgood - Class Of 1964

Lewis was born on Wednesday, September 4, 1946 in Ogden, Utah, the first son of Darve Craig and Mable Golightly Thurgood.  Lewis passed from his mortal life peacefully into the waiting arms of his Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, on Friday, June 9, 2017, at his home.

Lewis grew up in Syracuse, Utah, graduating from Clearfield High School and Weber State University with a degree in Diesel Mechanics and later, a degree in Logistics.

Lewis retired after 41 years civil service from Hill Air Force Base where he managed the Inter/continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Program.

He is survived by his wife Lynda (Hill) Thurgood, his daughters Shelly (Brent) Briggs and Stephanie (Mike) Hicks, five grandchildren, Clayton (Aleeshia) Hickenbotham, Ashley (Justin) Skinner, Chelsey (Mauro) Esparza, Cheyennea (Ricky) Spencer and Mikey Hicks, six great-grandchildren, Reagan, Hesston and Stella Skinner, Natalie and Ruben Esparza and Sebastian Spencer.

His family was everything to Lewis, he loved deeply and unconditionally.  He leaves behind many broken hearts.  We are comforted by the certain knowledge he waits and prepares for us to join him beyond the veil.

Lewis was an avid sportsman his entire life, his last hunts included Alaska with his brother, and Utah with Clayton, who inherited his grandfather’s love of the great outdoors.

Lewis traveled extensively for the U.S. Air Force visiting Egypt, Sweden, Switzerland and the Netherlands.  Lewis and Lynda traveled extensively also their most memorable, recent trip was to Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia for their 50th wedding anniversary.

His hobbies were many; motorcycles, racing, horses, shooting, boating, sledding and building.  Lewis could build or fix anything.  He led a full and multifarious life and will be deeply missed by many.

Lewis was a “people person” with a vast array of friends scattered throughout the country.

Lewis is also survived by his mother, his sister Marcia (Stan) Hamblin, his brother Reed (Cris) and nieces and nephews Lance, Monica, Brooke, Heather, Hailey, Landon, Jennifer, Christopher, Kimberly, Mitchell, Linsey, Matthew and Emmalee.
