In Memory

Debra Lee Allison - Class Of 1978

Debra Lee Allison was born November 9, 1960 to LaPreal (Thacker) Allison & John Samuel “Bud” Allison. As a child, she found joy in being the oldest sibling. She used to perform songs by singing into the vacuum handle while her siblings were made to hold her spotlight and be her backup singers. They had to be at rapt attention and clap a lot.

Debra survived two marriages and was a single parent for most of her son’s life. When her son Josh was a teenager, Debra went back to school and got her paralegal certificate. She worked full time and worked hard to raise Josh well. They ended up being the best of friends.

When Josh married Teresa, Debra loved her so much that she considered her her daughter, and frequently referred to Josh & Teresa as “her kids.”

The self-proclaimed "Game Queen," she always claimed to win card games, even on the odd times when the score sheet indicated otherwise. She was excellent at trash talk and witty banter, which made the game more fun for everyone.

Her grandchildren, Liam and Eliana, were the absolute light of Debra’s life, and she loved to dote on them. She was the kind of person who could talk endlessly about each new thing her grandchildren did, because she was so proud of them. She babysat them as often as she possibly could, and used her monthly visits to the Mesa Temple as excuses to watch them. She always joked that she would sneak her grandkids out and take them home with her.

Debra was a huge fan of Journey. She was once caught by a coworker rocking out to Journey in her car. She begged her son to name both his children Journey.

Debra had a large extended family. She loved the title of “Aunt Debbie” and enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. Her nieces will miss her emails, full of witty repartee. Debbie would always make you laugh when you needed it most. She was always sending along jokes, book recommendations, and little witticisms.

She also had several close friends, including Sherry Burke, Pam Dallair, and Kay Joslin. Her friends were very supportive, especially during her last days with ovarian cancer. Debra went out of her way to befriended so many people and she touched a lot of lives. At her funeral, several people came up and told her sister that Debra was their very best friend.

Debra is survived by her father, John Samuel "Bud" Allison, and her siblings, Chris Allison, Jalair Hoff, and Brent Allison. She believed firmly in the afterlife, and looked forward to being reunited with her mother, LaPreal, and to looking after her children from the other side. Her biggest regret is that she wouldn't live to see the finale of the Walking Dead.
