2018 Douglas Alan Barney April 25, 1946 - January 7, 2018 Clearfield – Douglas Alan Barney, 70, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home. He fought a short and courageous battle with cancer. His family and friends were able to spend time with him prior to his death. He was born April 25, 1947 in Ogden, Utah to Alfred W. Barney and Carol Dean Minchey. He graduated from Clearfield High School Class of 1965. He played football for the Falcons. He was also a member of the Third graduating class at CHS. He served honorably in the United States Army from October 1966 to October 1968, receiving the Bronze Star, for Vietnam service. He was retired from Hill Air Force Base in 2009. Doug is survived by his two children, Douglas Andrew Barney and Teresa Christeen Barney. He is also survived by his brothers Wayne M. Barney, Gary L. Barney, Randy Minchey and one sister, Sharon (Barney) Hunt. He was especially close to his brother Wayne. They were brothers and buddies all of their life. Doug was a generous soul, caring more about the needs of others than his own. He made friends easily and was loyal to his lifelong friends, Thomas Wixom and Dave and Carol Mecham. Doug had a love of working with his hands, especially wood, making many beautiful walking sticks and canes, as well as clocks. He loved the outdoors and especially fishing. If there is a fishing hole in heaven, he will be fishing the first chance he gets. He loved pets and had several fish tanks and dogs. He was known to enjoy a round of golf as well. Though it is painful to be without Doug, as family, we are extremely grateful that he is no longer suffering. Special thank you to the staff of the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home and Bristol Hospice for going “above and beyond” while caring for Doug and making him comfortable during his short stay. They are simply “the best”. At Doug’s request, there will be no funeral services. His wishes were to be cremated.
