Merlin Calver - Class Of 1965

Merlin Gene Calver 14 Nov1946—23 Nov 2007 (aged 61) Prominent Weber County Attorney and Businessman, Merlin Gene Calver, died November 23, 2007. He was born November 14, 1946 to Eunice Calver and Clarence Rapier in Layton, Utah. Merlin graduated from Clearfield High School, obtained his bachelors in History at Weber State College, and earned his Masters in Education at Utah State University. In 1977, he graduated from Valparaiso University with his law degree. In 1978, he opened his own law practice in Ogden, Utah. He married Christine Burnham in 1968, later divorce and in 1980 married Christine Hill, later divorced. He remained good friends to both. Merlin was a well respected businessman and friend to many. He was the Guardian Ad Litem for Davis County for many years and donated thousands of pro bono hours to his clients, including the "starving artist" community, over the course of his law career. He also enjoyed real estate and developed housing projects in Weber County. His philosophy of life was "go big or go home". He enjoyed traveling, boating, the arts and more than anything, he enjoyed sitting and shooting the **** with his friends and family. In his younger years, he earned his 4th degree black belt and taught karate in Weber and Davis Counties. Merlin is survived by his beloved children, Bronwen (39), Nicklaus Dax (25), and Jean-Cole (22); three grandchildren, Julian Stacey (Bronwen), Madison, and Urban (Jean-Cole); brothers, John and Robert; special nephews, Brent and Doug; former wives, Chris I and Chris II; livelong friends, Rahn Parker, Fred Larew, and Mike Magraw; and special dogs, Jugs, Boozer, and Tabitha. Also survived by an Aunt, many cousins, and hundreds of friends worldwide. Pre-deceased by his Mother and Father. A Wake will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2007 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT. The Graveside Service will be Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune from 11/25/2007 - 11/26/2007.
