Matthew "Matt" Lynn Johnston

September 1, 1958 — March 7, 2025

Matthew (Matt) Lynn Johnston 66, of Ogden, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray of natural causes.

Matt was born on Monday, September 1, 1958 to Marvin L. and (Jennie) LaVern McIntire Johnston in the Brigham City Cooley Hospital.

He lived with his parents and older brother, Kit , in Roy, Utah until 1962 when his family moved to Sunset Utah, and his sister, Tina, joined the family. In 1966 his youngest brother, Danny, was added to the family.

Matt attended Doxey Elementary, Sunset Junior High, and Clearfield High where he graduated in 1977.

He then joined the Army Infantry. He served in Germany and Washington State.

After his military service he had several jobs, including driving truck for Swift and Link Trucking, painting for Peterson, Inc., and pretty much anything else that would keep him outside. He served for a time in the reserves.

Matt attended Ogden Weber Technical College where he took classes to pursue drafting. He enjoyed art, sketching, and drawing funny characters for his children to enjoy. He also enjoyed video games and reading fantasy books. He loved Star Wars.

He loved being outdoors, camping, and fishing and looked forward to any outings involving these.

Matt is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Karl (Kira), Neyl, Sunshine (William), Stevie (Mars), James (Renee), David; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Kit, Tina, and Danny. He was proceeded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family from 12:30 to 1:30 at the mortuary.  Interment will be Friday, March 21, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
