Robyn Adele Tucker (Thurgood) - Class Of 1965

SYRACUSE – Robyn Adele Tucker Thurgood, 67, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014, after a 16 year battle with inflammatory breast cancer.  She valiantly fought to remain here with her family and endured beautifully to the end.

She was born June 7, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She was privileged to be adopted by Blaine Graham and Carole Anderson Tucker.  They were thrilled to have her become part of their family.

She married Richard Grant Thurgood on June 11, 1968 in Ogden, Utah.   They were sealed one year later in the Salt Lake City Temple.  She was excited at this time to begin her forever family.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various callings including the Stake Primary and Ward Young Womens, Relief Society and Primary organizations.   She loved the Gospel and had a strong testimony of the temple and the priesthood.  She relied heavily upon her faith throughout the many trials she endured.

Robyn served in the Davis County School District Special Needs Program, Davis County Local Luner Agency Council and the Parent Advocate for at Risk Children. She loved serving others in these capacities.  She was always looking for someone in need who she could help.

She loved camping, horseback riding, traveling and going to the lot at Lava Hot Springs.   She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  They were a major focus in her life.  She also loved spending time with her friends, who were really more like sisters then friends.

Surviving are her husband Richard, children, Jordan Richard (Amelia), Michelle (Charlie) Cearley, Nicole (Rodney) Banks, eight grandchildren, Alexandra Banks, Kendal Banks, Kiersten Banks, Cameron Banks, Grayson Banks, Cayden Cearley, Riley Cearley, and Kaylee Cearley.  Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Elma Thurgood, brothers and sisters-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Thomas B. Tucker, and father-in-law, Grant B. Thurgood.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Sandridge Ward, 2700 S. 1000 W., Syracuse.  Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.

Special thanks to Dr. Saundra Buys and the wonderful staff at the Huntsman Cancer Center.  Also thanks to the many others who provided care as she waged her fight against cancer.

I was proud to be a fellow "Clinton Buddy" with Robyn as we shared many wonderful experiences.  Bless her for her valiant fight and faithful approach to her adversities.  She always tried to focus on the positive and how blessed she was by her family.  We will miss knowing you are there, Robyn!

I lived just down the street from Robyn by a few houses, and my most remembered memory is of Robyn and Sondra Mitchell ice skating on a small patch of ice in Robyn's back yard, most likely put there by Robyn's father Blaine. Robyn and Sondra would skate around and around in circles, going backwards, as fast as they possibly could. We were of high school age during that year.
